The girls’ basketball team overwhelmed the Acalanes Dons on January 10 at home by a score of 71-53.

The game started with Acalanes jumping out to an 8 point lead, but by the end of the 1st quarter, the Dons led by only 1 due to Campolindo’s 3 point shooting.

Senior Sierra Regan believed the team’s attitude was the key to getting back in the game. “We stayed positive and didn’t give up,” she said.

Sophomore Emily Lyall praised the team’s comeback. “We never got nervous about getting down. We have a strong team.”

With 3:13 left in the first half, the Cougars finally took the lead, 30-29. By the end of the half, they had improved the margin to 40-32.

Regan said the game plan was “to come out on fire and not let up,” and to “play with intensity.” She also felt that improvisation was necessary. “We take what they give us,” she said.

Head coach Art Thoms said he focused on playing through adversity before the game, and they came through for him. “They remained calm. It’s a big credit to them,” he said.

Acalanes only scored 7 points during the 3rd quarter.  Campolindo led 57-39 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Though their defense tightened up in the 4th quarter, the Dons were unable to catch up.
