Kevork Tchakmakjian
Freshman Kevork Tchakmakjian joined the Campolindo class of 2020 after moving to Moraga this summer from Stanford, Connecticut. Already, Tchakmakjian is fitting in with his new peers, especially now as part of Oakland Strokes' varsity crew team. In Connecticut,  Tchakmakjian won 1st place as a member of the only middle school team in The Head Of The Fish Regatta. The Regatta, one of the largest in the country, featured up to 1600 crews from across the northeast. Consequently, Oakland Strokes, a competitive rowing club, "thought I had enough experience to be on the varsity team," said Tchakmakjian. Not one to back down, Tchakmakjian said, "It's a challenge, but I like the challenge." What is harder for Tchakmakjian, however, are the many friends in Connecticut he had to leave. Most of all, he misses his friends. "[We] were really tight," he said, "It was a good community." Fortunately, Oakland Strokes' club, a non-profit whose mission statement is to teach youth about the rowing lifestyle, may provide the kind of community Tchakmakjian is used to.
